A first period English brass lantern clock of theCharles I period to early Commonwealth period,by noted clockmaker William Selwood (British, 1607-1653). Inscribed across the front fret: "William Selwood at ye Maremaid in Louthbury." Roman numerals, floral engraved face. Offered with brass weight, cotton cord, and a later wooden wall bracket.

The clock measures 16" x 7 1/2" x 7"not including bracket or weight.

Condition

The clock is untested. Tarnish and patination consistent with age. There is an old repaired crack on the backside of the bell. The cotton cord is worn and should be replaced.
