Benton once offered context on the image in a 1971 letter: "The lithograph Sorghum Mill was executed in the early winter of 1969 from drawings made in the autumn of 1968 at a small farm on the Buffalo River in north Arkansas. This is rough Ozark country. Mule or horse powered operations of the sort used to be common in the Ozarks."
From an edition of 250, circulated by Associated American Artists.
Literature: The Lithographs of Thomas Hart Benton By Creekmore Fath - #81.
The sheet is in very good condition, with none of the typical toning or mat burn, noting only very slight ink spatter in the margin. The sheet is not laid down, hinged to the mat from the top.
