Thomas Hart Benton (American, 1889-1975) County Politics, 1973 Lithograph on paper 14" x 16 7/8" (image) From an edition of 250 (Fath, 89) published by Associated American Artists (New York). Pencil-signed "Benton" in the lower right margin. Presented behind glass in a wooden frame that measures 23 1/4" x 26 1/4". The following is Benton's own description of this image, as written in Creekmore Fath's essential The Lithographs of Thomas Hart Benton: "County Politics shows what we used to call 'The Courthouse Gang' arguing out its allegiances, favors, rewards and punishments. Every rural court house had one and probably still does. Those who run for public office, however high, must take these gangs into account. They know where the votes are and how to round them up." Provenance: From the corporate art collection of a Kansas City based Fortune 500 company.

Condition

Very good condition. A strong impression that shows mild toning to the sheet and gentle rippling within the frame. Clean visible margins. The print was not removed from the frame.
