A pair of Tyrolean pewter plates hand-decorated with hammered low-relief hunting motifs, signed George Ludwig von Buttlar. The first depicts a fox standing above a slain rooster, its back leg in the teeth of a trap. The second depicts two chamois leaping through mountainous terrain.
The plates each bear inscriptions around the rims: the first reads "Zum Gedenken an Hof - Wildstein in Tyrol. George Ludwig v Buttlar. 1730", and the second reads "Zum Gedenken an die Gemsjagd in der Hinderriss in Tyrol. d: 27 October 1730. George Ludwig v. Buttlar." Each rim also bears the Buttlar family crest.
Each measures 8 7/8" in diameter.
Provenance: The Shirley Bush Helzberg and Webster House collections.
