An antique Italian inkwell, lidded green marble case inset with seven carved lava stone cameos of historical figures, circa late 19th century. Fitted with three quill holders, two inkwells, and a pounce pot. On the underside of the lid is framed a circular gouache painting of Naples with Vesuvius in the distance. Measures 3 3/4" h x 6" d. Good condition. Repaired hairline to the marble case. There is a small chip to the edge of one of the intaglios. Mild rubbing to the gilt metal framings and pots. The painting shows some staining across the top in the sky areas.
