Seven finely-painted French botanical watercolors, five in matching frames and two additional unframed. Circa mid-19th century. The following are the flowers depicted:
1. Spanish jasmine
2. Dwarf morning-glory
3. Periwinkle
4. Epacris longiflora
5. Clematis
6. Gallic rose (not framed)
7. Primrose (not framed)
The watercolor of Spanish jasmine is dated in pencil to the bottom right: "6 Janvier 1852." Slight variations in the sizes of the glazed frames, from the smallest 11 5/8" x 9 1/8" to the largest 12 1/8" x 10 1/8".
Condition
Good condition, with small amounts of soiling, toning, and foxing. The unframed watercolor of the Gallic rose has a pronounced crease across the bottom of the sheet, and it shows darker toning than the rest of the botanicals.
