George Ames Aldrich (American, 1872-1941) Spring Morning, Canal in Western France, ca. 1910 Oil on canvas 24" x 30" A canal scene in the quintessential Aldrich style, signed to the lower left. Presented in a period M.H. Hartmann (New York) gilt frame measuring 34" x 40", with an engraved nameplate. Provenance: A private collection in Kansas City, thence from Abante Gallery in Portland, Oregon.
The painting is in good, stable condition, with only a mild amount cracking to the paint layer. Inspection under blacklight reveals a few small scattered spots of in-painting, most of which are along the bottom edge of the canvas sight, disguising small losses from old abrasions with the frame.
