A mid-18th century French walnut bombe commode, having four shaped drawers below a slant-front desk. The desk is comprised of a serpentine deck of 8 drawers flanking a center cabinet, a tooled green leather writing surface, and a sliding door to reveal storage cabinet below the surface of the desk. The carcass is constructed with pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery.
Measures 45" x 48 1/2" x 26".
Condition
All drawers operate smoothly (one of the pull-out desk support rails is a little tight). Some minor scattered scuffing and dings across the piece, and scratching to the desk surface. The brasses and the leather writing surface are replacements. The top has a dark ring stain.
