An exceptional watercolor illustration of Narcissus, perhaps at the moment he heard the call of Echo. Watercolor on paper backed with artists board.Circa early 20th century, possibly English in origin, but unsigned and without attribution.
The image is beautifully detailed for the fairly miniature size, measuring just 6 5/8" x 5". Float-mounted behind glass in a gilt frame that measures 9 1/2" x 8".
The sheet has slightly slumped downward inside the frame. Fastened to the backing board with a top tape hinge. The sheet is partially laid down on artists board. The sheet has a few small creases, most overtly in the bottom left corner.
