A polychrome painted marionette of Sotigi (the horseman), from the storied puppetry tradition of the Bamana people of Mali, West Africa. The horseman, here taking the form of a colonial officer, is outfitted in woven fabric and a removable helmet, and armed with a sword and rifle.
