One portfolio of lithographs and six books illustrated by Rockwell Kent (New York, 1882-1971), including: 

 

1. A 1962 portfolio of six lithographs from Greenland Journal, each sheet measuring 9 1/4" x 6 1/4". The first lithograph, entitled "On Earth Peace," is pen-signed by Kent. Also including "Little Brother," "Young Seamstress," "Helena," "Greenland Woman," and "Small Boy and Big Bird."

 

2. Leaves of Grass, Walt Whitman, illustrated by Rockwell Kent, the Heritage Club (New York), 1937. Complete with slip case. 9 1/2" x 6 1/2".

 

3. Candide, Voltaire, illustrated by Rockwell Kent, Random House (New York), the Literary Guild of New York, 1929. 11" x 7 1/2".

 

4. Goethe's Faust, Part One, illustrated by Rockwell Kent, New Directions (Norfolk), 1941. 8 3/4" x 5 3/4".

 

5. A Northern Christmas, Rockwell Kent, American Artists Group (New York), 1941. First edition, complete with dust jacket. 6 3/4" x 5".

 

6. Autumn Leaves: Reflections of an Industrial Lieutenant, P.W. Litchfield, illustrated by Rockwell Kent, Corday & Gross (Cleveland), 1945. Complete with dust jacket. 9 1/4" x 6".

 

7. Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer, illustrated by Rockwell Kent, Covici-Friede (New York), 1934. Complete with dust jacket. 9 3/4" x 6 1/2".

Condition

[Greenland Journal litho portfolio] Very good, good impressions on very clean sheets, the book that this portfolio was originally included with is not present. [Leaves of Grass] The book is in very good condition. The slipcover is in poor condition with two fully torn edges. [Candide] Fair, no dust jacket, wear and fading to the cloth cover and spine, loose hinges. [Faust] Very good, no dust jacket. [A Northern Christmas] Good, browning to the edges of the dust jacket, very mild spots scattered in the front papers and text block. [Autumn Leaves] Good, tears to the top of the dust jacket, one creased leaf near the end of the text block. [Canterbury Tales] Very good, creasing and chipping to the dust jacket.

Pick Up, Packing, & Shipping:

Winning bidders may pick up their lots, once paid in full, at Circle’s auction office during regular business hours. If packing and shipping is required, we can provide you with a list of recommended shippers by request. You will be responsible to contact, arrange shipment, and pay 3rd party shippers. Circle will not be responsible for loss or damage of purchased lots handled or shipped, nor for acts and omissions, by 3rd party shippers, whether recommended by us or not. Circle will not release the lot for shipment until payment has been made in full and a buyer’s written shipping authorization form has been received. Winning bids may not be retracted, canceled or rescinded due to issues with shipping including, but not limited to, costs or prohibitions. It is the responsibility of the bidder to account for shipping prior to bidding.

Failure to Pick Up & Storage:

Winning bidders must pick up or have lots shipped within 15 calendar days of the close of the auction. On the 16th day from the close of the auction Circle has the right to charge the winning bidder a storage fee of $5 per lot per day. Lots that have been paid for, but remain on our premises sixty (60) days from the close of the auction may be sold by Circle, with no notice to the buyer. Any funds in excess of the purchase price, commissions, applicable costs, and storage fees will be remitted to the original winning bidder. At the point where storage fees associated with an unshipped item exceed the hammer price of the item the winning bidder will be considered in default of our terms and conditions and forfeits ownership to Circle Auction or its affiliated companies. In the case where the item is forfeited the winning bidder will not be compensated in any way. Lots left with Circle after the 16th day from the close of the auction are stored at the buyer’s risk.
