William Harrison Ainsworth
(English, 1805-1882)
16 volumes
Pub. George Routledge and Sons, London
Circa 1857-1880

Three-quarters bound in brown calfskin leather over marbled boards, with all marbled edges and end papers. Gilt spines with raised bands. Octavo (8 1/2" x 6").

Each novel is illustrated throughout by artists George Cruikshank, Sir John Gilbert, and Hablot Browne. The set contains all of Ainsworth's most acclaimed works, including The Lancashire Witches, The Tower of London, Guy Fawkes, Rookwood, Jack Sheppard, and Old St. Paul's. Re-bound as a matching set circa 1880s.

Good condition, noting a little bit of foxing to the text block in some of the novels. The covers and binding are very good, noting a little rubbing and grime from handling and some mildly bumped corners.
