A Hopi necklace by distinguished 20th century silversmith Lewis Lomay (New Mexico, 1913-1996), featuring seven tear drop shaped turquoise in hand cut sawtooth bezels. The turquoise are in textured insets in free hanging panels. The panels are strung on cable wire which is soldered onto a hook and eye clasp. The turquoise is light blue with a wonderful matrix pattern. Necklace signed on the reverse of one of the panels with the artist's snake mark. The largest turquoise measures 24mm long x 20mm wide at the widest point and the smallest turquoise measures 4.5mm long x 9.5mm wide. The largest panel has a 1 3/4" drop. The necklace measures 16" long and weighs 159 grams. Lewis Lomay started silversmithing at the Santa Fe Indian School as a student of Ambrose Roanhorse, before spending time with the Navajo Arts and Crafts Guild. He worked for 13 years for Frank Patania's Thunderbird shop in Santa Fe before designing jewelry on his own. His award-winning work has been featured in numerous museum exhibitions.
