A huge barber's pole on homemade base, with candy-striped red and white column and blue top finial. Patriotic motif from the 19th century, hand-painted wave design in blue with white stars around the column. This is a striking example for the scale of the item. An original hook to stabilize the pole to a wall is still attached.

Original pole measures 77 inches tall, stands on a recently constructed base that measures 6 inches tall and 12 inches by 12 inches wide.

Condition

Condition is good. Barber's pole has significant fading and crackle to the painted surface. There is some loss of paint, due to crackle around the base of the finial. Patina is original and shows suggested age of the item.

The blue base with stars is not original to the piece, but was constructed for home display of the piece.
