Bleeding Heart II, 2017
Oil on board
8" x 8"
A
trompe l'oeil composition depicting a bleeding heart flower, plucked and fastened to a wall with a Band-Aid. Signed to the bottom right corner, titled and dated to the reverse. Presented in a frame that measures 11 3/8" x 11 3/8".
In his 2018 "Best Medicine" exhibition catalog, the artist talks about Band-Aids as a recurring motif in his work: "Band-Aids signify healing-- healing that needs to take place within ourselves and our communities... Band-Aids have become a ubiquitous part of my life since becoming a father. They don't seem to do much, but they sure do help when you put one on."
Provenance: Acquired from Meyer Gallery (Santa Fe) in 2018.
