Fenx
(French, b. 1974)
March 1974, 2017
Acrylic on French linen
51" x 77"

The canvas is floated in a light wood float frame that measures 53 1/2" x 79 1/2". Unsigned, as is typical for the artist.

Artist Loic Le Floch made a name for himself as FENX (pronounced "phoenix") by creating graffiti on the streets of Paris throughout the 2000s. In recent years, he has transitioned to a gallery setting, showing his work in international exhibitions in addition to his solo shows at the Cohle Gallery and Marcel Strouk Gallerie Rive Gauche.

Of his subject matter, FENX explains: "“I think it’s amazing the work that goes into fashion photos, and I think it’s a pity to only use these photos once to illustrate one magazine. I appreciate the emotion that photographers can bring to a shoot. I had the idea to do this project with Playboy covers to acknowledge this work." (2Good!, 2021)

Provenance: A private collection; previously, urban art gallery Art in the Game (London gallery representative for the artist) shipped the work to the United States for  CONTEXT Art Miami, 2017. The work is also pictured on the artist's social media.

Condition

Very good condition, noting a little bit of mild scattered soiling across the surface, which could be professionally cleaned if desired.
