From the Webster House's dining hall, a monumental English oak buffet with removable mirrored hutch top, featuring extensive all-over hand-carving with motifs including dolphins, fruits, urns, swags, and a central high-relief grotesque face. The buffet consists of five drawers over three cabinets. Fourth quarter of the 19th century.

Altogether, the piece measures 102" x 83" x 29". The buffet measures 38" x 83" x 29", the top measures 64" x 82" x 14".

Provenance: The Webster House collection.

Condition

Patina is appropriately worn, commensurate with age. Good, smooth action on all drawers and cabinet doors. One drawer pull is loose (missing two small screws). The buffet's top boards are slightly warped, causing them to pull apart from each other a little bit. All of the carvings are in great shape without breaks, though there is a small loss to the base of the crest board (just above the right end of the topmost shelf). The mirror is not original.
