A set of seven porcelain cabinet plates, gilt cobalt rims and finely hand-painted with seven distinct French views, each titled to the underside. French, 18th century.
Five of the paintings are signed by early Sevres artist Leber, a painter known to have decorated Sevres pieces including known Sevres-marked blanks identical to these plates in the 1750s.
An inscription to the underside of each plate: "Manufactured expressly for Tho. B. Oakley, american merchant, 49 Avenue de l'Opera Paris". Each plate is incised by hand in the shape of a cursive "S". Each measures 9 1/2" in diameter.
Provenance: The collection of Shirley Bush Helzberg.
Condition
