Valerius Herberger (1562-1627), here credited as Valerii Herbergeri Magnalia Dei (The Great Works of God), Parts 1-6 Published in 1661 by Jacob Rebelein (Hamburg, fl. 1630-1662) An early Lutheran devotional tome, bound in vellum and printed in the original German, over 1100 pages in six parts. Consisting of uplifting meditations on Genesis and Exodus that serve to show the revelation of Jesus Christ in the Pentateuch and throughout the Old Testament, Magnalia Dei was Valerius Herberger's masterwork, written between 1601-1618. Herberger, known in his time as "the Little Luther," was a significant early Protestant pastor and theologian from what is now Poland. Measures 8" x 7 1/8" x 2 3/4" in total.

Condition

The vellum cover is discolored, binding is in very good condition. The leaves are foxed, modestly stained, and worn, but all easily readable and remarkably intact. There is some very old blue ink staining that runs across the fore-edge. Inside the front cover is written "Meyer" in pencil, and on the first title page is written "1661" in vintage blue pen.
